To: Dean Tran, State Senator

Tell Dean Tran to Agree to the Sentinel & Enterprise Debate

We believe all elected officials have an obligation to be transparent and discuss their positions with the public. State Senator Dean Tran should stop refusing to debate his opponent and immediately accept the Sentinel & Enterprise’s invitation to the October 24 State Senate debate.

Why is this important?

After only nine months in state office, State Senator Dean Tran is already ducking his responsibilities to the public. He’s refusing to attend the Sentinel & Enterprise’s October 24 State Senate debate with his opponent in the November election, Leominster City Councilor Sue Chalifoux Zephir.

Senator Tran said no to the newspaper’s invitation to a one-on-one debate, saying he would only “respond to written questions” with written answers. The two other forums Tran has agreed to participate in will provide candidates with the questions or topics in advance, making the Sentinel & Enterprise debate the only open-ended debate of this election.

The Sentinel & Enterprise reported recently that 75 percent of Tran’s campaign donors are from outside of the district. Perhaps he believes he is no longer accountable to his constituents.

Tell Dean Tran to respect the voter of our region and agree to the Sentinel & Enterprise debate! Voters deserve to hear from him about the issues facing families in North Central Massachusetts.
