Tell John Hickenlooper to Pass The Torch And Run Joe Neguse For Senate

We need to empower our next generation of leaders instead of leaving them on the sidelines any longer. We should know after all from the lessons of the 2024 presidential election and the emergence of the gerontocracy in Congress today.

John Hickenlooper will be almost 75 by the time his term ends in 2027. With so much at stake, it is important young, fresh, energetic leadership emerges to counter the Trump agenda. If he retires, we can thank him for his public service to Colorado as Governor and US Senator (much like with any other potential retiring incumbents, such as Dick Durbin or Ed Markey).

Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse is the leader we can have to succeed Hickenlooper in the Senate. Joe Neguse is the son of Eritrean immigrants who rose to the leadership ranks of House Democrats since his first election to Congress in 2018.

Before that, he served as a regent at the University of Colorado, founded New Era Colorado to engage young leaders in politics, and became an attorney. Elected to represent the Fort Collins area in north central Colorado in 2018, Rep. Neguse became a star leader in the Democratic Party, and a passionate progressive ally. In 2021, he was called to serve in the impeachment trail of Donald Trump for his role in the 1/6 insurrection as an impeachment manager, a job he did very well in.

If elected, Neguse will continue the great work he has done in the House to improve natural disaster relief, wildfire response, and public lands conservation in his lifelong focus on environmental resiliency and climate action. He also will continue to support public education, expand vocational training, and make college more affordable, and tuition-free for low-income students. He additionally will continue to fight for universal healthcare, workforce training, labor rights, and consumer safety if given the privilege to serve again as a US Senator, a consistent track record that holds from his time in the House.

Young leaders are the future of our country. And Congressman Joe Neguse is a leader we need at the frontlines of this fight for democracy, opportunity, fairness, and equality.

Why is this important?

The United States Congress, and the Democratic Party, is facing a crisis in gerontocracy, which leaves our democratic institutions vulnerable to Trump's extreme, unfair, and out-of-touch agenda.
