Don't be misled. HB388 is a “TRAP bill” designed to close clinics providing abortion services, thus denying Louisiana women their constitutional right to a safe and legal abortion. It does not protect women, it endangers them. This bill will create red tape that will close three out of five clinics in the state. It does NOT reduce the need for abortion, in fact it will force desperate woman into dangerous situations. It will cost Louisiana money defending this unconstitutional law in the courts. Stop trying to take away our right to choose. Stop wasting our taxpayer money. Stop using government to promote a religious agenda.
Why is this important?
I have seen Louisiana pass dozens of laws that end in court. The State dedicates already scarce funds to pay for lawyers to defend laws that end up being overturned. In the end, not only do they waste the time of the lawyers, but the State often has to pay damages.
Instead of passing laws that promote a religious agenda, and feathering their own political nest, the lawmakers should help the people they represent. Louisiana is 49th in the nation for infant mortality, and 44th in the nation for pregnant women’s mortality. They should put the money they keep spending on settlements where it can make a real difference to the people.
