Tell Mia McLeod to Run for US Senate
State Senator Mia McLeod matches the perfect foil to South Carolina incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham, a both-sides career politician who aided and abetted in the building of oligarchy in America today.
Senator McLeod was a vociferous champion and fighter for reproductive access, a $15 minimum wage, climate action, renewable energy abundance, and rural assistance in the State Senate. In the US Senate, she can continue that advocacy on all kinds of issues, including public education, fair maps, campaign finance reform, small business, and voting rights.
McLeod also has a distinguished career serving and helping victims of domestic violence.
McLeod has been very forthcoming in calling out the Democratic Party's disconnect with the working class and for leaving out working class voices in her state, including African Americans and women. Mia McLeod would offer the best kind of Southern populism to the establishment status quo representation in Lindsey Graham.
Can Lindsey Graham lose? It would be a difficult fight still, but it is not totally impossible. He only won reelection last time in the state by about 10 points, if not less. 2026 may be a more favorable cycle for Democrats compared to 2020 and 2024, given the proper investment and ground game to support the state party.
That is why I hope Mia McLeod will run for Senate, either as a Democratic populist, or an Independent one.
