Tell Rep. Ken Calvert: No Cuts to Medicaid!

Protect healthcare for 81 million Americans who depend on Medicaid, including 250,000 Californians in your district. Commit to no cuts to Medicaid.

Why is this important?

The Congressional Budget Office just confirmed what we all knew: the budget plan Congressional Republicans want to pass to fund tax cuts for millionaires will slash funds for Medicaid and jeopardize healthcare coverage and access for more than 81 million Americans.

Medicaid funds programs in states, like California’s Medi-Cal program, that help the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. Cuts would be made to vital services people use every day, like support for children with special education needs, nursing home care, mental health and substance use help, and physical rehabilitation services.

These cuts mean working families will lose health coverage. Nearly half of all children in the U.S. depend on Medicaid. Cutting funding means more uninsured babies and more children who miss critical preventive care. For many low-wage workers, Medicaid is the only way to access affordable healthcare. Without it, they’ll be forced to go without necessary medical care.

Cutting Medicaid hurts everyone—even those who don’t rely on it. When hospitals lose Medicaid funding, they raise prices for all patients to cover their losses. That means higher private insurance premiums, soaring out-of-pocket costs, and more medical debt for working people. Cuts would also mean thousands of job losses, weakening communities and reducing economic stability, and could cause closures of rural hospitals.

But we still have time to stop these devastating cuts before Congress makes them final.

These proposed cuts will have to come back for a vote in the House and Senate as part of a larger budget bill or tax cut bill, so we can speak up now to demand that [rep. name] take a stand against any cuts.

More than 250,000 Californians could lose healthcare in Rep. Calvert’s district if Medicaid is cut. Tell him that we can’t afford to cut healthcare access for millions to give tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans.
