Reject New Rules Limiting Women's Health Care

Greetings,

I am writing to voice our opposition to medically unnecessary and burdensome regulations that would restrict access to women’s health care services. TRAP (Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers) has nothing to do with the safe delivery of services to women. In fact, women’s health centers in Virginia already follow federal and state regulations and an impressive safety record proves their high standard of care. Of women who have first trimester abortions, 97% experience no complications.

Virginia’s women’s health centers provide preventative reproductive health care services that include STD and HIV screenings, life-saving cancer screenings, and family planning. Medically inappropriate and unnecessarily burdensome regulations would restrict access to these essential services and detrimentally affect young, low-income, uninsured, and minority women by further reducing their health care options.

I oppose any regulations that will restrict women’s access to comprehensive health care services. I oppose any regulations not based in medical evidence whose sole purpose is to restrict women’s access to safe, legal abortion care. The Virginia Board of Health is charged with expanding access to health care. I urge you to reject regulations that would harm Virginia women’s access to comprehensive health care services and eliminate access to safe, legal abortions.
