Tell the Commissioners 'The Rt. 4 Wooded Buffer Needs to Stay in Huntingtown'
The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners approved a zoning amendment reducing the wooded buffer along Route 2/4 in Huntingtown despite a public hearing, protests from the public, and no recommendation to do so from the Planning Commission. There is no justification for this change. When the buffer (trees and woods that give Huntingtown its character) is removed, the Huntingtown intersection will be barren.
The decision came after a contentious evening public hearing attended by about 50 people, where 18 speakers voiced their opinions on the amendment. After the public hearing, the Planning Commission could not agree on what to recommend to the commissioners, and ultimately, despite the planning commission’s failed vote in approving it, the commissioners moved forward with the amendment’s final approval.
