"Dearborn, Michigan, is NOT "a jihad capital" as an Islamaphobic Wall Street Journal op-ed claims! Tell the WSJ: Publish a retraction, issue an apology, and cut ties with the author.

Why is this important?

The Wall Street Journal, a media outlet with a huge following, published an article that calls an American city the "jihad capital" of the country, and condemns the communities living in Dearborn as terrorists for calling for a ceasefire. It was written by Stephen Salinsky, the leader of Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), a well-known right-wing organization that spouts Islamophobic rhetoric.

Since its publishing, the mayor reports that threats against Dearborn and its local population have increased, requiring additional law enforcement in the area. The Wall Street Journal’s publishing of the article, including its bombastic title, was irresponsible and brought monetary and other harm to the city of Dearborn. The United States is on the cusp of dealing with a regional war and facing rising tensions domestically and internationally. It is abhorrent of the Wall Street Journal to publish such vitriol that inherently builds consent for US intervention. The mayor of Dearborn, governor Whitmer, and President Biden all have condemned the article.

Salinsky's claim about Dearborn is Islamophobic, targeting the city for its largely Arab-American population. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the majority of Dearborn's population, 54.5%, is made up of Middle Eastern or North African ancestry. People of Lebanese descent comprise the largest, followed by people of Yemeni descent.
