The NRA has been using the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to do its bidding with legislators dating back to 1995. ALEC was behind several bills that were conceived in conjunction with ALEC’s corporate member, the NRA, behind closed doors for the Public Safety and Elections Task Force. After 2012, in the wake of the Trayvon Martin tragedy and the spotlight on ALEC’s Stand Your Ground Policy, the task force was disbanded. However, ALEC has yet to do anything to repeal or rollback any of the dangerous gun legislation that they pushed on behalf of the NRA for years.
