Ohio has a special election for its Senate seat in 2026 currently held by Jon Husted. Ohio may be one of the best opportunities on the map to actually flip control of the US Senate given the proper campaign infrastructure and support starting right now.

Sherrod Brown would be a phenomenal candidate should he run, being able to give it a fighting chance in 2026 after losing his Senate seat by only 4 points, outperforming the top of the ticket by 7 points.

If not, Congressman Tim Ryan should give another go at it. He knows how to reach people in places like his native Mahoning Valley. He has called out the gerontocracy and the weakened Democratic Party brand years in advance. And he has proven himself right on the issues, from fair trade and clean energy manufacturing and sustainable family-based agriculture, to labor rights, consumer safety, retirement security, drug trafficking, and even mindfulness.

After dominating the Mahoning Valley for two decades, Ryan lost a highly competitive Senate bid to the charismatic JD Vance, outperforming the gubernatorial ticket by double digits.

Either Brown or Ryan would be credible candidates to give a prime chance to flip this needed Senate seat. It will be needed to give a credible chance to win back the Senate in 2026.
