Twin Towers Day
The largest scale attack on our homeland in history taking the lives of over 50,000 people. A national holiday of remembrance should be designated the first Tuesday of September since the attack was on a Tuesday. This would put it the day after Labor Day allowing a "four day weekend" of remembrance and reverence.
Why is this important?
It has bee over twenty years since this epic tragedy. Yes a monument has been built to honor the victims. But we need a national holiday to dedicate and entire day for remembrance. We still have Columbus Day as a holiday government holiday which is controversial and has been found to not have good cause for a holiday. A holiday like Columbus Day could be stricken allowing a 9/11 Day or Twin Towers Day as a replacement so technically it doesnt add or subtract any holidays. This was a day that no American will ever forget, always remember where they were when it happened, and our country mourned like never before.
