The DOT just issued a proposed national traffic safety goal that doesn't include a specific target or goal for reducing the number of bicyclists and pedestrians killed on our roadways. Urge your members of Congress to sign on to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Act: HR 3494 / S 1708, which will extend the Highway Safety Improvement Program to include statistics on injuries and deaths of pedestrians and bicyclists so that our roadways can be improved for everyone.
Why is this important?
I am a life-long cyclist that has ridden in states that have been supportive of cyclists and provided safe routes, as well as states that were hostile to cyclists and did everything they could to get them off of the road. I dream of a day where bicyclists are considered when designing roads, and we create cities throughout the US that support more than just cars.
