VALDESE CANNOT AFFORD AN $8 MILLION FIREHOUSE

WE THE UNDERSIGNED RESIDENTS AND TAXPAYERS of VALDESE respectfully request that the Valdese Town Council vote to repair the current Public Safety Facility, in the center of town, and bring it to current standards; rather than abandoning the present facility to incur new debt to construct a new facility, at greater cost, and relocated to a residential community.

Why is this important?

#1 - YOUR PROPERTY TAXES ARE AT STAKE! VALDESE CURRENT LONG-TERM DEBT IS EQUAL TO ITS ANNUAL REVENUE. THAT 1:1 RATIO IS HIGHER THAN TEN NEARBY TOWNS, SOME OF WHICH HAVE ZERO DEBT. THE PROPOSED $8 MILLION BUILDING WILL DOUBLE THAT DEBT - REQUIRING HUGE PROPERTY TAX INCREASES.
#2 - YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE AND HOME VALUE ARE AT STAKE IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE 100+ RESIDENTS WHO LIVE WITHIN 500 YARDS OF THE PROPOSED FIRE STATION.
#3 - THE ANNUAL PAYMENTS ON PROPOSED NEW DEBT MEANS THAT ADDITIONAL PROPERTY TAXES WILL BE REQUIRED TO MEET CURRENT AND FUTURE NEEDS.
#4 - VALDESE NEEDS AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND JOB-CREATING INDUSTRY - AND RESULTANT TAX BASE REVENUE THAT CAN HAPPEN ON ITS 18 ACRES OF PRIME DEVELOPMENT LAND THAT WAS REMOVED FROM THE TAX ROLL.
