To: Rahm Emanuel, Mayor, City of Chicago and Chicago aldermen, Chicago City Council members

Vote NO On Chicago's 2018 Budget

We, the taxpayers and residents of Chicago, demand our aldermen vote NO on the 2018 budget for Chicago. STOP heaping regressive taxes and fees on us and START implementing the $5 billion in revenue solutions found in the book “Chicago Is Not Broke. Funding the City We Deserve.”

Why is this important?

Mayor Emanuel has heaped about $2,000 of regressive taxes and fees on EVERY household in Chicago since he took office in 2011. The Mayor has repeatedly taken out expensive debt – sticking the taxpayers with the bill. This includes borrowing $1 billion that will cost us ONE HUNDRED PER CENT INTEREST - $1 billion! His 2018 budget continues this trend. Our aldermen have engaged in NO DEBATE and in 2016 and in 2017 there were NO PUBLIC MEETINGS held by the city around the budget. We demand our aldermen vote “NO!” ON THE 2018 Chicago budget and schedule a public forum in ALL 50 wards where we can discuss the $5 BILLION worth of revenue solutions offered in the book “Chicago Is Not Broke. Funding the City We Deserve” (www.wearenotbroke.org). The book is from the CivicLab and was published in July of 2016. There have been 55 small community meetings all over the city since then around the book. But no alderman has discussed the book and it has been ignored by all major Chicago media outlets. We should NOT be asked to pay ONE PENNY more in taxes and fees until these solutions have been thoroughly reviewed.
