Welcome Refugees in Iowa
Do not allow Governor Branstad's fearmongering to impact a state that has been a front-runner in many humanitarian and social justice issues. Pledge to maintain a welcoming state and stay open to refugees from Syria and anywhere people are fleeing for their safety and the safety of their children.
Why is this important?
This country started as a melting pot and it should stay as such, regardless of what the 1% would like us to believe. We are supposed to be the home of the free and the brave--and that is what we should be showing the world by opening our borders to refugees, not turning our backs on them.
Welcoming refugees fleeing from violence is the BEST possible way our state can show the true meaning of the words on the Statue of Liberty: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
