While you’ve got your pen out, federally legalize marijuana
While we’re in the midst of massive government change, much of which may cause financial deficits in many, if not all states, let’s finally address an overdue need of federal legalization of marijuana.
Why is this important?
One can only take a cursory look into states that have already legalized marijuana to see the financial benefits that this substance brings. Colorado, for example, relies on this money for infrastructure and education. This change could finally bring some self-sufficiency to states that desperately need it. It would also bring jobs and let’s be honest, a mental escape that’s much safer than alcohol. How many alcohol related car accidents and chronic medical diagnoses are we willing to endure? There’s new research emerging that has direct links to alcohol consumption and cancer. Outside of cancer, alcohol causes many additional medical conditions, such as cirrhosis, and kidney disease, which often come with expensive, chronic therapies, up to liver transplant. Those chronic alcohol-related conditions cause untold hardship to families, communities, and put immense financial pressure on a medical system that is already over priced. Let’s get past the stigma of marijuana and realize it for what is: economic support.
