Why cutting Social Security is useless and wrong

Social Security has not one thing to do with the deficit! If you do not already know this, research it, or ask Independent Senator Bernie Sanders to explain it.

Cutting Social Security to fix the deficit is a lie akin to invading Iraq on trumped up accusations because some Saudis attacked the World Trade Center.

You were elected to represent the people. Read the polls. The people are saying don't cut Social Security. Do your job - represent us!

Furthermore, the deficit was caused by Republicans.

It's time Republicans took responsibility for their reckless spending and pay their bill by raising taxes on those who can well afford it - instead of cutting earned benefits for Vets, the aged, the sick, and the poor, some of which are already eating cat food to survive.

Please stand up and be more vocal about the truth of the problem, be stronger in advocating for those who do not have the financial resources to be heard in today's political system, and above all, show basic human decency. Vote no to cutting Social Security!

Why is this important?

Republicans, and some Democrats, want us to believe that Social Security must be cut in order to reduce the deficit. They are either lying or very misinformed. The truth is that Social Security is not only in good condition, Social Security is in no way related to the deficit or the Deficit Shortfall.

They are two entirely different funds and one has nothing to do with the other. The Social Security fund consists of monies already paid into Social Security from workers past and present. According to most economists, Social Security is solvent and will remain in good health for decades to come, and any fine tuning that may be needed can be done in the next decade or two.

The truth is: not one single cent of any payment ever made by Social Security comes from, or affects the budget, or the budget deficit in any way. Never has. Never will.

So why is anyone ever talking about cutting Social Security? Some say Republicans want to get their hands on the money. Some say it's a distraction.

What ever the reason, we need to start understanding and talking about the real deficit problems and not be sidetracked or hoodwinked by another Republican lie... fix the deficit with something that has absolutely nothing to do with deficit.

This petition lets our representatives know that we are becoming educated on the truth and reality of the situation, urges them to do the same (if they have not already), and to stand up being more vocal about the truth and real deficit problems, and especially, to do their job - represent the will of the people who elected them.
