Workers Can’t Wait: Implement heat safety protections now!

Workers are getting sick and even dying in this historic heat wave— and there is NO federal law that protects workers from the heat. Stand in solidarity with workers and demand the Biden Administration take immediate action to guarantee heat safety protections for all workers!

Why is this important?

2023 is on track to be one of the hottest years on the record, and construction and other outdoor workers are continuing to do essential labor amid historic heat waves. Unfortunately extremists like Texas Gov. Greg Abbott aligned with corporate special interests to take away workers’ rights and eliminate local ordinances that mandate common sense heat safety standards like water breaks.

Since 2011 there have been over 430+ preventable worker deaths due to environmental heat exposure, and in places like Texas incidents are on the rise. Instead of protecting workers, the Texas legislature and Gov. Abbott are doing the opposite, passing legislation to overrule city policies enacted in Austin and Dallas mandating water breaks for construction workers.

This sets a dangerous precedent and will have a serious and deadly impact on workers who rely on common sense safety standards in the face of consistently rising global temperatures. Enough is enough. As we work comprehensively to address the climate crisis, we need to establish heat safety protections NOW to keep workers safe.

Fight back! Tell the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to pass immediate and permanent heat safety measures!
