Wachusett Regional School District TRANSPORTATION STATE FUNDING AT 100%
We, the tax payers, want our Regional School Transportation funded at 100% per our contract with the State. Under the contract, the State is required to fund 100% of our busing transportation for the Wachusett Regional School District, yet has only paid that amount once in the lifetime of the contract. Why is the State not living up to their contractual obligations? By not funding our busing transportation at 100% for our schools, a huge burden has been placed on our towns' budgets to make up the shortfall by cutting vital services such as police, fire, DPW and ambulance services . Tax increases have been an automatic every year with no end in sight and many towns have been forced to raise the tax levy even higher through Proposition 2 1/2 overrides. Our towns have been pitted against each other as well as grandparents who live on a fixed budget who can't afford the increases to pay for their grandchildren's education. It is time the STATE lives up to its contractual obligations to fund our transportation at 100%.
Why is this important?
Taxes are increasing at an all-time high on the local level to the point where the elderly on fixed incomes are being pitted against their children and grandchildrens' education. Municipalities are being cut to a dangerous level in order to pay the school budget. Something has to change.
