Abolish the Electoral College

Dear Mr. President, Senators and Representatives,

Why in this age of instant communication do we still retain the anachronistic electoral college system? It was established back when news took days or weeks to travel between states, so each state sent representatives to cast its votes for them. There is no need for such a system today. It causes candidates to campaign in certain states where the electoral vote count is higher and neglect less populated venues where the stakes are less. There is nothing glorious or worthy of preservation in this system, and in 2000, we saw that the man with the majority of the popular vote lost the election because of the electoral system. One man/woman, one vote. We need no more. Time to end this relic which contributes nothing to tradition or national character..

Why is this important?

In 2000, we saw that the man elected by the majority of the popular vote in America, LOST the election due to a shortage of electoral votes. The Electoral College is an anachronism, established back when communication between sates took days, even weeks. Now it is instantaneous. There is no need for it, and it can significantly skew election outcomes.
