It is appalling that the U.S. has accepted only 1,500 Syrian refugees in the last few years, while Germany is accepting 800,000.
As Mario Cuomo said of his immigrant parents at the 1984 Democratic National Convention, "They asked only for a chance to work and to make the world better for their children."
Per the promise of the Statue of Liberty, please work to open our doors to many more desperate people- many of them persecuted Christians- fleeing the Syrian Civil War.
Why is this important?
Like most of us in the U.S., I am a descendant of immigrants. My ancestors fled the famine in Ireland and oppression in Germany. I feel that I have a responsibility to help others desperate to live in our country and make it better.
