Access to Original Birth Certificates for Adult Adoptees

Adult adoptees should have the right to access their own original birth certificates. The laws restricting access were based upon social stigmas of illegitimate birth which are no longer relevant. To protect the privacy of birth mothers, submitted bills include contact preference forms. The law was made to protect children, but as these children become adults, they should be able to make their own decisions.

Why is this important?

American citizens who are adopted are denied their civil and human rights by having an amended birth certificate and not having access to their original birth certificate.
Their own search for their identity is denied.
The need for their original birth certificate involves medical information and more.
