Norooz means "New Day" and is celebrated by many Marylanders with many different backgrounds. It is a spring festival of Persian origin which has been celebrated for over 3,000 years.

Why is this important?
Many Maryland residents celebrate Norooz as part of their heritage and background. For those of us who do, it means taking a day off at work or having an "unexcused absence" at school.
