Allow adult adoptees the right to be first class citizens, with full rights to access their original Birth Certificates. Non-adoptees take for granted their own personal family information. Adoptees are denied all that, with no thought to what serious damage that does!
Why is this important?
As an adoptee, who was able to locate only my birth mother's family, due to not having my original birth certificate, I now KNOW what true value there is in knowing the details behind my adoption. As many adoptees secretly feel, having always felt there must have been something "wrong" with me, somehow, or no woman would have given me up for adoption, the missing information had far more effect on my self esteem than I had ever realized. I have since researched the many ramifications of what this missing information and the experience of being separated from birth mothers does to babies. ("The Primal Wound" by Nancy Verrier especially), I want to stand up for ALL adoptees and get the WRONG antiquated laws changed and open all adoptions, for the highest good of ALL!
