I would like to see the Federal Communications Department properly regulate cable television stations (which are practically monopolies in most areas) so pop- up advertising is eliminated. It is distracting to the actual programming and I believe it is in violation of rules that allow only a certain number of minutes per hour of advertising. I would also like to see channel identifying logos be dropped as well. Those logos are also a form of advertising and are somewhat distracting.
Why is this important?
This petition asks the rules about advertising be applied to cable TV. Cable TV has almost continuous advertising through pop-up windows that distract greatly from the program being watched. I notice that the actual ads do not allow channel identification because it would detract from the message.
