Why is this important?
AI companies are racing toward trillion-dollar valuations, powered by the labor, data, and infrastructure built by everyday Americans. But unless Congress acts, those gains will stay concentrated at the top 1% while workers, families, and entire communities are left behind.
Experts estimate the fund established by Sen. Sanders’ new bill would be worth nearly $7 trillion, generating hundreds of billions of dollars each year for direct payments to Americans and programs like healthcare, education, and housing.
This idea isn’t radical. Sixty-seven countries operate sovereign wealth funds, and in the United States, Texas and New Mexico have used similar funds for decades to support public education.
And even some of the biggest names in AI—including Open AI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei—seem to agree that the public should have some equity in AI companies. The industry knows what’s coming, and now we need Congress to act.
