Representative Mack Butler of the Alabama legislature is proposing a constitutional amendment that would allow people with concealed carry pistol permits to carry on all state college campuses. Please let the Alabama legislature know by signing this petition that we are opposed to forcing universities to allow weapons on campus, and that doing so will not make our campuses safer.
Why is this important?
My wife teaches at the University of Montevallo in Alabama. We both believe that this bill will make her workplace more dangerous, not safer. The presence of guns in classrooms can also create a threatening atmosphere that stifles the free exchange of ideas and opinions critical to learning and may intimidate students and professors alike.
