Gun owners should carry gun insurance on their guns just like they do on their cars. This passes the 2nd Amendment test and would require people to think twice about purchasing multiple semi automatic weapons with a mentally ill child in the home. The families in Ct. should not be forced to pay a $20K funeral bill on top of the loss of their child. The gun owners insurance company should cover this cost. Gun insurance rates could change. A rancher in Montana would pay virtually nothing to insure his bird gun, however a person with a record of domestic violence or mental illness would have to pay $500 or more a month to insure or purchase a gun and a person with both would pay $1000 a month or more to insure a semi automatic weapon..
Why is this important?
Given the recent gun violence I believe gun owners should be required to purchase insurance on their weapons similar to liability insurance on their cars.
