ALL Workers Deserve Paid Time Off!
For too long, Americans have been told that rest is a luxury in the richest country on Earth.
Each year, millions of workers go without the basic security of guaranteed paid vacation. Nearly 27 million Americans do not have access to annual paid vacation leave—that’s not normal.
We need legislation that supports required paid time off for all workers in addition to any paid sick leave or family and medical leave already guaranteed by the law. This would be a historic step toward a more humane treatment of workers that recognizes them as people, not machines. The ability to rest, recover, care for family, and handle life’s emergencies without losing pay is central to building stability and security.
Why is this important?
Guaranteed paid vacation doesn’t just benefit individual workers, it would strengthen the whole economy. Research has found that when workers take time off, they contribute to the economy, tax revenue grows and jobs are supported across retail, hospitality, manufacturing, and other sectors. Paid vacation isn’t only the right thing to do but a smart investment in the whole economy.
Guaranteed paid time off is the norm for a number of countries across the world, and it should be for the United States as well. Any true affordability agenda should work towards protecting families from burnout, and giving people the space to build better lives.
