Allow January Admits and Transfer Students to Pledge at Hamilton College

Allow January admits to pledge a fraternity or sorority in their first semester at Hamilton College.

Why is this important?

It has recently come to our attention that the administration has rescinded the ability for January admits and transfers to pledge in their first semester at Hamilton College. January admits and transfers not only make up a large percentage of Hamilton's Greek Life, but are valued members of our societies. Please sign this petition if you are in favor of reversing the administration's policy change and believe January admits and transfers should have the right to pledge a fraternity or sorority with their classmates.

The policy:

"IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT JANUARY ADMITS: Keeping in line with our policy for other new students, pledging for new students entering in January (including transfers) cannot take place during their first semester. Yes, this is a change that now makes our policy consistent for all first-year students. Yes, because we have spring pledging it means that new Jans and Transfers will need to wait until their sophomore year (or third semester) to pledge. I hope you'll all agree that getting these students acclimated to their new curriculum and community is most important, and we should give them the appropriate amount of time to do that."
