Allow Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in Michigan

Amend the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act (MMMA) to allow registered caregivers to engage in transfers of Medical Marijuana to patients not connected to them through the Medical Marijuana Registration process. The way the Current Law sits a patient has no legal option to obtain their medicine until plants grown specifically for them have reached full maturity, a process that can take over 6 months. This is unacceptable as it seriously damages the benefits of Medical Marijuana that Michigan Voters approved. By allowing groups of caregivers to legally provide to any registered patient it allows patients who would otherwise be forced to acquire their medicine from illicit sources, such as black market dealers, the ability to do so in a safe and secure environment. Furthermore, by the costs associated with growing Medical Marijuana being spread out to a larger number of patients who each need varying amounts of Medical Marijuana, this amendment would re-open the possibility of charities to assist Medical Marijuana patients who can not afford the costs associated with growing Medical Marijuana either through a caregiver or while acting as their own.

Why is this important?

Until the recent Michigan Supreme Court Ruling, Medical Marijuana Dispensaries have had a beneficial effect to all Medical Marijuana patients. Some even donated unused Medical Marijuana to charities such as Hospice. This should be allowed to continue.
