ALTERNATIVE Redistricting SOLUTION
The Florida Legislative leadership is petitioning the judge to allow the midterm 2014 elections to proceed with maps that the Court has deemed unlawful, apparently in the name of convenience, and then develop new maps thereafter. There is an alternative, which is to reconsider and re-evaluate maps that were submitted but rejected by the tainted process. The Court could order with due haste that an open and transparent re-evaluation be conducted right in the courtroom, with a team of appropriate people with an understanding of the voters intent when the referendum passed calling for compact and fair districting prior to the 2012 elections, based on the most current census. We the undersigned offer as an example of a complete map that deserves fair consideration, the map that was drawn by a team of students from Florida Gulf Coast University, which appears on the page: http://censusvalidator.blob.core.windows.net/mydistrictbuilderdata/4GoogleMaps/HPUBC0160_FGCURedistrictinginFloridaClass_KMZ.kmz
Why is this important?
The people of Florida deserve to vote in districts not tainted by a flawed and unlawful process. Convenience MUST NOT be a reason to allow voting to proceed with those UNLAWFUL congressional maps.
