Amazon, tell second headquarter bidders: only U.S. Climate Alliance supporters need apply
Amazon is soliciting proposals for a second corporate headquarters (HQ2), to employ as many as 50,000. In its instructions to bidders, Amazon touts that “Amazon is committed to sustainability efforts,” was “the largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy in the U.S. in 2016” and “will develop HQ2 with a dedication to sustainability.” Prove it, Amazon! Governor Sununu of NH is aggressively pursuing a bid for NH but refuses to join the U.S. Climate Alliance. Tell Governor Sununu and all others submitting bids for HQ2 that joining the U.S. Climate Alliance is the first step in the application process.
Why is this important?
I am a climate activist in NH. Climate change is destroying lives, health, communities and economies and may end humanity in our grandchildren's lives. We have waited too long to do something about it already and, according to recent scientific reports and statements, are fast running out of time. Responsible corporations, like citizens, must become louder and more demanding of immediate, responsive action, and what better corporation is there to lead the charge than a giant like Amazon?
