Amend the Constitution on Presidential Elections

The Electoral College system is no longer a viable means to elect the President of the United States of America. The system has the possibility of disenfranchising the voting public. By using the popular vote method, Americans can be assured that their vote for the presidential candidate will actually count toward the election of the President.
Step one would be a proposal to amend the Constitution to remove Article II section 1 clause 1: “Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.” Such amendment would also require addressing the Twelfth amendment on all parts pertaining to the “Elector” or “electors”.
The new amendment should have language referring to abolishing the “Electoral College” and enacting a method of choosing the President by popular vote in a fashion similar to that used by every other federal level elected official.

Why is this important?

Currently the US Constitution requires the President to be voted on by the Electoral College not by popular vote as with every other Federal level position. This petition would urge the congress to inact a Constitutional amendment to change presidential election to be by popular vote.
