Amend US Constitution: In Event of Govt Shutdown, Congress is Fired
I would like to propose an amendment to the United States Constitution to deter future instances of shutting down the government in order to score political points. Many of the people in congress who are unwilling to budge from their positions do so because they plan to seek higher office in the future. With that in mind, my proposed amendment would stipulate the following:
In the event of a US Government Shutdown or a US Government Default, no sitting member of congress is eligible for re-election to his or her current office, nor any other federal, state, or local office in the United States for the rest of his or her life.
That's it! I think this would carry appropriately severe repercussions to a government shutdown/default to help any congressperson see that shutting down the federal government is not something that can be used as a game. I would hope this threat to their entire political existence would encourage both sides to talk to one another seriously and with the ultimate goal of promoting our country's success and prosperity.
Thank you for your time.

Why is this important?
I am disgusted by the partisan gridlock in our highest branches of government and do not want there to be a precedent of brinksmanship working as a political maneuver.
