America: Let's quit killing our own people

Total number of people dead in 9/11 attack: 2996

Total number of people killed by firearms in US in 2010: 30,470

We need gun laws for our own protection!

Why is this important?

I am a retired pediatrician. I am worried about, and appalled by how many children have been killed and maimed (mentally and physically) by firearms. We have spent and continue to spend untold billions of dollars and other resources protecting ourselves from foreign invaders (Think 9/11) But we have been cowards in the face of the gun lobby, even though we ourselves kill ten times more of our own people yearly, with our own guns than one invader did once.. We are brave enough to defend ourselves against those who threaten us from the outside. Why have we been cowed by the gun lobby? Let's change that. Let's find the courage to stand up to the NRA and their ilk. Let's pass sensible gun laws to protect ourselves from ourselves, because, actually, people do kill people.
