ANIMAL PROTECTION

As we move forward in the 21st century to feed and clothe the billions of humans who live on the planet, let us be mindful not to neglect the animals on whom we rely. Thus, be it resolved that regulations and oversight must be created to protect all animal life from inhumane treatment.
1) Slaughterhouses and “factory farms” - for the production and killing of animals for food - must be subject to regulations and oversight that will ensure a clean, germ-free, un-crowded environment for these animals, and a humane and pain-free death.
2) Scientific experiments with animals must be based on valid and justifiable reasons, and in no case should animals be subject to torture.
3) Abandoned pets must never be killed using gas chambers and those who wantonly abandon them will be subject to criminal prosecution.
4) All animals trained for the purpose of entertainment and those used in the production of products, such as clothing, must be treated humanely and with care. Any violation of such treatment must be punishable by fines and/or incarceration. Importation of animal products must be denied, if evidence of inhumane treatment can be demonstrated.
Finally, we as humans understand animals, like us, feel pain and should be subject to minimal pain by us as fellow creatures on this planet.
