By law, U.S. military and police aid must be cut off to any Egyptian military or police unit that is credibly accused of gross violations of human rights until the allegations have been resolved. We urge Congress and the president to comply with and enforce the Leahy Law as it applies to Egypt.
Why is this important?
By law, U.S. military aid to Egypt should have been cut off when the democratically elected President was overthrown by a military coup. But a minimal demand is that U.S. military and police aid must be cut off to military and police units that are credibly accused of gross abuses of human rights - like shooting unarmed protesters in the head, neck, and chest - that is - shooting to kill. This cut-off is required by U.S. law. Urge Congress and the President to comply with and enforce the law.
