The role of Deputy Mayor is to act in place of the Mayor whenever the incumbent is unable to be present to perform his normal functions and duties. Deputy Mayor Holyday is more than capable of carrying duties as Mayor and best placed to follow through on the mandate awarded at the last election. This would prevent costly premature election.
Why is this important?
Presented with Mayor Ford’s removal from office the most cost effective yet constitutionally sound decision would be for Council to appoint Deputy Mayor Holyday as interim Mayor of Toronto for remainder of the electoral term. He is very experienced and able to follow through on the mayors mandate.
