We are calling on the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC") to regulate radio stations across the country to stop playing the song by Rapper OT Genasis "In Love With The CoCo," a song that promotes the sale, distribution and use of crack cocaine targeting Black/Latino communities. Produced by Busta Rhymes, the lyrics of the song explicitly describe the process for producing and smoking crack cocaine including the use of baking soda, glass, blowing and coke. We find this offensive as drug use specifically crack cocaine has plagued the lives of so many in poor communities of color. The video and album cover promote images of white powder and glorifies drug use. This is not appropriate for children and youth who are being targeted by mainstream radio, internet and television as the primary audience for this message. We ask parents, teachers, clergy, elected officials and anyone who cares for the livelihood of children to sign this petition and urge the FCC to prohibit this song from radio stations across the country.

Why is this important?
Children and youth exposed to music on the radio, internet and other outlets, are not equipped to discern the appropriateness of its contents. As language (slang) references to drug use expand, parents are also unable to keep up with words used to describe drug use in the context of rap lyrics. While some may see it as innocent like singing the ABCs, these words make smoking or selling drugs sound cool. This country has fought too hard to stop the decrease drug use by inhalation, and it is through music and other art forms that crack cocaine and other illicit drug use is popularized. We need to sign this because #BlackLivesMatter #AllLivesMatter and our #ChildrensLivesMatter.
