Ask Governor Cuomo to rescind (In)Secure Communities

Dear Governor Cuomo,

We Don’t Want ICE and S-Comm in New York State:

We ask that NY State immediately rescind the Memorandum of Agreement signed with ICE approving the Secure Communities Program, in which local law enforcement sends fingerprints of arrestees to the Department of Homeland Security.

Why is this important?

The so-called Secure Communities program is an immigration enforcement tool between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and New York State. It requires police to fingerprint all persons processed and to send the prints to ICE. This leads to an increase in the deportation of non-criminal immigrants and tears families apart. It undermines trust in the police and makes us less safe. Gov. Cuomo should rescind the agreement.

Reasons for signing

  • ICE does not have the best interest of our communities in mind. This program does not make us more "secure" when the majority of those being deported haven't even been convicted of any crime! Rescind the MOA now!
  • Human Rights for All. Let us have a moral law that treats all folks with human dignity. The United States created this immigration with their so called Free Trade. Now, they are criminalizing workers the U.S. needs. SHAME! Probably of more interest to politicians is it is costing BILLIONS!
  • Please follow the lead of Governor Quinn of Illinois and get New York out of this unwanted obligation.
