Ask Ilhan Omar to deliver 2017 SOTU Democratic Response

In lieu of having an DNC establishment politician who's a governor or member of the federal government - I think it would be important to showcase a local politician, from the labor movement, working in one of the most important bodies of government in the coming years. I think it's more important than ever to showcase and share stories like Ilhan Omar and give a major platform to young progressives of color who are working to serve their communities on a local level - especially in a state like Minnesota that is finding it hard to deal with the evolving demographics of their communities. Please support if you'd also like to hear more of what IIhan Omar has to say and provide a larger platform for her story and message.

Why is this important?

In the hours since the election results have come in, I've watched with concern the Democratic party's rudderless response to their loss and their instinctive recoil from pushing toward a more inclusive and representative government. I don't want to have the progress made by Americans (including Ilhan Omar) overshadowed by the regression in national politics. I think its important to reflect and reassess but not overlearn the wrong lessons (like spending even less time and energy and focus on minority voices).
