Ask WV Lawmakers to Take a Stand on Citizens United
SUPPORT A "Citizens United vs FEC"
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT IN 2012
TO: WV State Legislature
FROM: members of MoveOn.org
A petition to pass your resolutions (SR7 & HR8) calling for the overturning of the Supreme Court’s “Citizens United vs FEC” by Constitutional Amendment.
BECAUSE...
• Citizens without great wealth have become disenfranchised since the Supreme Court ruled that money is speech. Money shouts. Ordinary citizens like us can’t be heard over that noise.
• Corporate decision-makers are shielded from the consequences of their decisions by the corporation, which the Supreme Court has defined as equivalent to a human being.
• We have ample evidence from the continuing economic crisis that corporate decision-makers will protect and promote their profit and that of their shareholders over the well-being of citizens, the common resources we all must share, and even of their own employees.
We demand that the rights guaranteed us by our United States Constitution and Bill of Rights be restored to us.
We demand that the Constitution be amended to acknowledge these self-evident truths – that a corporation is not a person, that money is not free speech, and that We, the People are in charge of our own lives.

Why is this important?
In January resolutions were filed in the WV Legislature opposing the Supreme Court ruling that Corporations are people and should be allowed to spend unlimited funds on elections. Called Citizens United vs. FEC, this ruling has spawned the Super Pacs now dumping millions into the primaries. Sign this petition before Sat March 10th, the last day of the session to ask Lawmakers to pass SR7 & HR8
