Propose that New Mexico add an additional 2% sales tax on the sale of assault weapons and ammunition (such as multiple round banana clips and the like) to be used to compensate victims (including those injured), their families, friends, and others negatively impacted by such heinous acts of violence. An office within the State Legislature should be charged with the tax' disbursement.
Why is this important?
This petition is rather self-explanatory. It's to offer a disincentive towards the purchase of such unnecessary weapons, while not punishing those who use guns only in respected, sportsman-like ways.
