Attorney General Eric Holder: Investigate TUSD

Tucson Unified School District has historical problems with discrimination against minority students. This resulted in a court decision against the District in 1974. Because of this, the District has taken steps to correct for past problems. The latest agreement between the district and the courts, called the 2009 Post Unitary Agreement, included the Mexican American Studies program as an important part of these ongoing corrections. The District has eliminated the program, putting them in violation of their agreement with the courts.

We call on Attorney General Holder to investigate TUSD's violation of desegregation orders.

Why is this important?

Tucson Unified School District's recent decision to abolish the Mexican American studies program calls into question the District's commitment to a federal desegregation order.
