Senators McCain and Flake: Call on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign

Despite weak claims to the contrary and constant backtracking, the fact remains that Jeff Sessions lied under oath at his confirmation hearing.

On January 10, 2017, under oath, Sessions told the Senate Judiciary Committee: "Senator Franken, I'm not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I didn't have — did not have communications with the Russians, and I'm unable to comment on it."

The truth is this: Sessions met with Russian Ambassador Kislyak twice, in July 2016 at the Republican convention, and in September 2016 in his office.

He lied. Under oath. About meeting with the top Russian government official in the United States.

Why is this important?

Our chief law enforcement officer should not be someone who has committed perjury.

It denigrates the office of Attorney General. It casts doubt on the veracity of any future statements or positions he takes.
