Autism Education Reform

The Federal Government should update the regulations in the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) in regards to Autism Spectrum Disorder. Some of the things we would like to change are:
1. National Standardization for special education teachers being certified in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
2. National Standardization of training for para educators and bus monitors on Autism Spectrum.
3. To have IEP audio and visual sensory accommodations support in the classroom allowing for a classroom shadow.
4. Stronger bully prevention programs including sensitivity training for main stream student’s to better bridge of understanding of social justice and equity issues.
5. Automatic Testing for learning styles to better understand the learning styles and how to better support learning.
6. IEP meeting include the school team and all other treatment providers that involved in the skills building process.
7. A Federal agency regulates and mediates disputes on a local school level.

Why is this important?

Update the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) as it pertains to Autism spectrum disorder today.
