Reduce single use plastic bags in Athens-Clarke County with full community participation. We want a clean and healthy community, free of plastic bag waste!
Why is this important?
Single use plastic bags are commonly used for a short time yet carry long term environmental and economic impacts. They are a temporary product made from nonrenewable petroleum, yet take an estimated 1000 years to decompose. We hope Athens can be a frontrunner of environmental and economic sustainability through the joint efforts of legislators, businesses, and citizens to help reduce this unnecessary product: the single use plastic bag.
