We were shocked and horrified by the senseless and brutal killings in Connecticut. But we were also shocked to learn that the Bushmaster .233 semi-automatic assault rifle that took the lives of so many innocent children and teachers in our neighboring state can be legally purchased right here in Rhode Island. Republicans in Congress are blocking meaningful gun reform at the national level, so we call on our elected representatives here in Rhode Island to take action at the state level. It is long past time that we addressed this problem. We cannot allow the mass slaughter to continue.
Why is this important?
