Ban Election Officials' Conflict of Interest

In 2000, Ms. Katherine Harris was Florida's Secretary of State, the official in charge of making the elections fair. She was also the chair of George W. Bush's Presidential campaign, the person in charge of making sure Bush was elected.

Look what happened.

In 2004, Ms. Glenda Hood was in exactly the same position. So was Mr. Ken Blackwell, Secretary of State for Ohio.

Despite the obvious fact that a single person cannot be in charge of making sure an election is fair and at the same time make sure one candidate wins, there was nothing illegal about this.

Congress must immediately pass a law banning this conflict of interest. Any election official who takes a job working for a candidate running in that election must be forced to resign their position.
